The CAS Candidate Liaison Committee (CLC) welcomed its newest members during the annual in-person meeting in December. The Future Fellows blog will be profiling each of the three new Candidate Representatives joining us this year.

It’s my pleasure to introduce John Klodnicki to you as one of the incoming Candidate Representatives. John joined Milliman in Wayne, PA in 2014 as a consulting actuarial analyst in the Property & Casualty track. Being a recent graduate from University of Delaware, John is looking forward to provide a fresh perspective to the CAS from a college student’s point of view, and bring along new ideas for the Future Fellows newsletter to communicate important changes to candidates. In addition, he is excited about the opportunities to expand his network and understand the inner workings of the CAS during his service. After the first committee meeting, he is already amazed by the many discussions happening behind the scenes at the CAS which will affect candidates in the years ahead.

John was inspired by his mother, also an actuary, about the actuarial profession at an early age. Although at college he majored in Physics, he decided to become an actuary after graduation. Currently at Milliman, he performs reserving studies for self-insurance programs, captives and risk retention groups in Medical Professional Liability. He enjoys working with his peers in a collaborative environment, and appreciates the flexible working schedule and flat structure in the company. As John develops his client base, he finds himself more efficient in completing projects, and having fun working with different clients.

During his free time, John enjoys playing tennis and bringing his dog, a black Labrador, to the park to play with other dogs. John also likes to brew beers and follow sports in Philadelphia. John had an opportunity to study abroad in college. His future fiancée went on the same trip and they had their first date in Florence, Italy. As a fun fact, John would like to be on the show Jeopardy and he studies for the entrance test every year.

John is grateful for the Candidate Representative opportunity and is committed to representing the interests of fellow candidates to the CAS. We welcome John to the Candidate Liaison Committee, and look forward to his contributions.
